Knowledge base: structure

A knowledge base is a help center for your readers: collections on the home page, categories inside them and articles inside those. This guide covers creating the page and arranging its structure. Writing and publishing articles is described in .
1
Create a knowledge base page
Log in at , open your team and click
Add Page
. Choose the
Knowledge Base
type, enter a name and an address, then confirm. You land on the
Content
tab — the structure browser described below.
2
How the structure is organized
  • Collection
    — a section on the home page. Readers open it at /collections/{slug}/.
  • Category
    — a folder inside a collection. Categories can be nested up to three levels deep.
  • Article
    — sits at the collection root or inside any category.
The
Content
tab shows the tree of collections and categories on the left and the contents of the opened node on the right — categories first, then articles, in the order readers get them. The header shows how many collections, categories and articles your plan allows and how many are already used.
3
Add a collection
Click
Add collection
and fill in the form:
  • Title — the section name on the home page, for example Billing.
  • Slug — the part of the reader URL. Unique within the page; letters, digits, dots, underscores and hyphens only.
  • Description — an optional line under the title on the home page.
Click Save. The new collection appears at the end of the tree.
4
Add categories
Open a collection and use the menu in the pane header, or the
Category
button, to add a category into it. A category row has its own menu with
Add subcategory
for the next level down.
A category has a Title, a Slug, an optional Description and a Parent category — either the collection root or another category of the same collection. At most three levels are allowed, so the last level offers no “add subcategory”.
5
Reorder and move
The order in the browser is the order readers see. Use
Move up
and
Move down
in a node's menu — the change is saved right away. Reordering stays within one level: it cannot carry a category into another collection or parent.
To move a category elsewhere, open
Edit category
and change its Collection or Parent category. An article is moved with
Move
in its own menu, which lists every collection and its categories; the article's address does not depend on where it sits, so links keep working.
6
Rename and delete
Edit collection
and
Edit category
open the same form in place. Changing a slug changes the reader URL of that section.
A collection or category can only be deleted when it is empty — move its articles and subcategories out first. This keeps a published article from disappearing together with its folder.

The structure is ready — time to fill it with articles 🚀
